The one threat to the success of the bike tour of the Neunkirchen-Seelscheid Lions Club in Germany was bad weather. But Lions were not too worried. The project sponsor was the Rev. Carsteen Schleef and he “put in a good word with his boss,” according to Lions. The skies were clear, the riders were ready and Service Tour 2008 went off without a hitch. The brass section of a local band gave the 200 participants a classy send-off. In turn, Klaus Ullrich, club president, donated a trumpet to the band. The ride raised 3,000 euros ($4,000) for youth programs including camps and an anti-bullying, anti-drug school program.
